Atos is a canine that worked for the Village of Mt. Pleasant Police Deapartment.  Atos has often been mistaken for a light colored German Shepherd, when he is actually a pure bred Belgian Malinois.  Atos started with Mt. Pleasant in March of 1997, when he was introduced to his handler Officer Robert Jarosz.

Officer Jarosz and Atos trained at the Alabama Canine Law Enforcement Officers Training Center in Tuscaloosa, Alabama.  The Alabama Training Center is regarded as one of the top training facilities available to law enforcement in the United States.  While in Alabama the team of Officer Jarosz and K9 Atos received 480 hours of formal training in the areas of tactical obedience, criminal apprehension with reasonable force, directed and patrol route area search, building search, and narcotic detection.

On April 25, 1997, the Mt. Pleasant Police Department Canine Unit began its tour of duty.  Between 1997 and 2004, Atos had responded to nearly 1000 K9 call requests.  Atos had performed 444 searches for narcotics and felony offenders. From the start of the program K9 Atos had a nose for drugs.  Atos performed 287 searches for narcotics and paraphernalia and had a total of 157 positive drug findings.  Atos has also assisted the United States Department of Drug Enforcement Agency, the State of Wisconsin Department of Narcotics Enforcement, as well as other state and local agencies in the area of narcotics detection.

Atos had also been used for searches of buildings and searches that were limited to felony offenders.  Atos performed 157 searches leading to the apprehension of 17 felony offenders, which had included offenders charged in the areas of homicide, armed robberies, burglaries, vehicle thefts, vehicle pursuits and weapons violations.
Atos retired from a successful tour of duty in July of 2003 due to a health-related problem.  Atos has received several Letters of Commendation from the Mt. Pleasant Police Department, as well as an International Award for Outstanding Duty from the ISCC.  Atos is currently enjoying his retirement along with the Jarosz family.
